ORCA SEAFOOD S.L. acquires its farmed tuna from the MFF group located in the picturesque village of Marsaxlokk, a small traditional fishing village in Malta.

The fish farms are located one nautical mile from the coast at a depth of about 50m. This location provides optimal conditions for fish rearing.

Fish farms are made up of innumerable components all working together to fulfil not only biological requirements of the stock in the cages but also the structural and mechanical equipment of the farm. These components need to be managed efficiently and rigorously to ensure that a consistent quality product can be provided to the company’s many customers.

The company has invested millions of Euros in setting up the farm at its two sites where Atlantic bluefin tuna, gilthead sea bream, European sea bass and other fish are grown

One of OSF’s objectives is to invest in the future. The future of the sea and the wealth it has to offer. This is why OSF is looking at developing sustainable technologies for growing Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus)

Quality controls

Cage inspection

The cages are located in an area that can be exposed to strong winds and waves. The MFF divers carry out a specific monitoring and maintenance program, ensuring that cages can withstand almost any weather event that may arise.

Feed Control

The fish baits used during the production of farmed Atlantic bluefin tuna are fully traceable and documented. These bait fish are obtained from sustainably fished sources and are packed according to human grade quality standards.

Environmental Monitoring

The company has been carrying out environmental monitoring underneath and in the vicinity of its cages for many years in accordance with the necessary government monitoring requirements. This includes water quality monitoring, video monitoring underneath the cages, benthic monitoring and sediment analysis.
