Sustainability

Being aware of the increasing global consumption of fish and Bluefin tuna and the challenges posed by overfishing in recent years, Orca Seafood S.L. is dedicated to promoting sustainable fishing practices in its collaborating fisheries and farms.

At OSF, we continuously strive to enhance our feeding and breeding practices to optimize the use of resources and minimize environmental impact. Our commitment to sustainability ensures that we maintain high standards in every aspect of our operations.

By prioritizing sustainability, we not only guarantee the future of our company but also contribute to the well-being of future generations. This commitment allows us to provide a high-quality product to the market while preserving the health of our oceans.

ICCAT

OSF’s Bluefin tuna originates from the Mediterranean, with fishing strictly regulated by ICCAT, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas. The tuna captured by purse seine vessels are transferred to approved farms, where they are continuously fed to improve their quality and increase their size.

Upon completion of the fattening process, and following a thorough ICCAT inspection, the tuna are transferred to authorized ports. Throughout this process, the traceability of each fish is meticulously maintained, ensuring full compliance with ICCAT regulations. This commitment guarantees that every piece of Bluefin tuna we commercialize meets the highest standards of sustainability and quality.

ENSURING THE FUTURE OF TUNA

Catch control

At OSF, we employ the “Purse-Seine Fishing” method, which allows us to target specific species while releasing those that have not reached adulthood, do not meet the appropriate size, or weigh less than 30kg. This selective fishing practice ensures that we are not harming juvenile populations and contributes to the sustainability of the Bluefin tuna stock.

Our Bluefin tuna fishery strictly adheres to environmental sustainability standards, as outlined by the ICCAT management plan for Bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. Every stage of our operations, including extractive fishing, fish transport, aquaculture concession, fattening, extraction, and marketing, has been thoroughly audited. This rigorous process ensures that we maintain the highest standards of environmental responsibility throughout our activities.
